Why McKinleyville
If you fly into Humboldt, you’re landing in McKinleyville, and what a welcome sight to see! The Pacific Ocean to the west as far as the eye can see, and seemingly endless emerald green forests to the east.
The well-maintained and mostly paved Hammond Trail follows the edge of the earth for miles. I’ve spotted dozens of resting seals on the beaches on many occasions. You might even get really lucky and catch a glimpse of a migrating whale!
If you’re heading north to Trinidad or one of Humboldt’s freshwater lagoons, be sure to stop at Clam Beach to take in the ocean view.
